#Coronavirus: Glastonbury Cancels 50th Anniversary Festival

“We are so sorry to announce this, but we are going to have to cancel Glastonbury 2020”

Another of UK’s prominent music festival ‘Glastonbury’ has joined the likes of Coachella, Live Nation and more in self isolation due to COVID-19.

The festival’s organizers, Michael and Emily Eavis, issued a statement on social media regarding its canceling this year, writing: “We are so sorry to announce this, but we are going to have to cancel Glastonbury 2020. Tickets for this year will roll over to next year. Full statement below and on our website. Michael & Emily.”

“Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event,” the pair wrote in the statement, “but following the new government measures announced this week — and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty — this is now our only viable option.”

The festival’s cancellation comes shortly after it announced that Kendrick Lamar would serve as its final headliner. Prior to Lamar, Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift were announced as the festival’s other headliners. It’s unknown if the festival will be booking the same headliners.

A number of music festivals have been canceled or rescheduled amid coronavirus concerns. Coachella has been postponed until October 9 to 11 and October 16 to 18. SXSW was canceled as well; the company behind the annual festival in Austin announced it would not be issuing refunds to ticket buyers due to their strict no-refund policy. The festival also reportedly laid off a third of its employees.
