“Today’s Nigerian artistes want to make money” – Burna Boy’s Grandpa
Burna’s grandpa spit out some truths about Nigerian artistes
“They want to make money, not because they want to play music” was what Burna Boy’s grandpa during his session told an interviewer.
In a viral interview video (with Vice Land TV), which is currently making rounds on social media has Burna Boy, his grandpa, who was Fela Kuti’s former manager (from 1963-1974), and his manager mum sat in front of the interviewer asking questions about Burna’s career and more.
During the interview, a question triggered the old man’s answer, and in his blunt response he said that majority of Nigerian singers of nowadays now sing to make money and not to make good music. However, he acknowledged that there are some (though he didn’t mention names), who are quite talented and who see it as a spiritual thing. He further claimed that he and his grandson burna is part of those few singers.
Despite all the accolades showered on Burna, he didn’t find the interview interesting and he angrily got up from where he sat and moved out leaving both the interviewer, his grand dad and mum on the sit. His mum wasn’t so happy about that attitude he displayed from the look in her eyes at that time. He indeed pissed everyone off in the end.
