R. Kelly Announces Overseas Tour Amid ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ Backlash

Amid backlash from the Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly, R. Kelly is embarking on an overseas tour where he’ll perform in Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

This comes shortly after the R&B singer was symbolically banned from Philadelphia.

The shows, which will be presented by event promotions company Flamingo Dreamz, don’t have any dates attched to them. Flamingo Dreamz, previously known as Sincity Group, has presented shows by DMX, Ja Rule, Twista, and others.

Kelly’s sexual assault allegations have resurfaced following the release of Surviving R. Kelly. The docuseries featured interviews with over 50 people about Kelly, many of whom were women who detailed the artist’s alleged long history of sexual, physical, and mental abuse.

Since the series’ release, Kelly has been dropped by Sony and is under a criminal investigation opened by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office in Georgia. investigators have reached out to several survivors featured in the TV docuseries. It’s been confirmed that investigators reached out to Asante McGee, one of the women who claimed to have escaped captivity in Kelly’s Atlanta home, where more women and girls are alleged to still be held.

Kelly is also reportedly trying to distribute his new album which was supposed to be released through Sony’s RCA Records.  The R&B singer reclaimed ownership of his unreleased works “as part of his agreement to leave the record label” as part of his agreement to leave RCA.
