Kanye West debuted his forthcoming new album in Wyoming Thursday night. Titled Ye, the seven-song release was played during a live-stream where West and other celebrities such as Chris Rock, Nas, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, and others were in attendance.
The project finds him speaking on everything from the sexual assault allegations against Russell Simmons (“Russell Simmons wanna pray for me too/Wanna pray for him ’cause he got MeToo’d”) to his controversial comment that slavery was a choice (“I say slavery a choice/they say how Ye”). In terms of guest appearances the album features Kid Cudi, Charlie Wilson, Ty Dolla Sign, and others.
The album has yet to appear on digital streaming platforms and the official tracklist hasn’t been shared. However, the album is also being sold as part of merch bundles with the note that the “digital album will be delivered via e-mail upon global release on June 1.”
Prior to this, West released two songs — “Lift Yourself” and “Ye vs. the People.” Considering the songs played during the live-stream, those two tracks will not be appearing on the album.
Unfortunately for the rest of us, Ye has yet to hit streaming services so we’re not officially sure who’s going to be listed on the album & its tracklist, but we do have a strong idea thanks to the listening party. Ye will apparently features guest appearances from Kid Cudi, Ty Dolla $ign, Frank Ocean, Willow Smith and surprisingly enough Nicki Minaj, who appears on the outro track called “Cry Tonight.”
From what twitter & reports are saying, Kanye addresses everything from Donald Trump, his recent personal trial & tribulations, #MeToo movement, drug addition, and more on the album. He also references Wiz Khalifa, Stormi Daniels, Russell Simmons, Sway, Tristan Thompson, and his wife Kim Kardashian, among many other people.
As for the cover art we’ve yet to see, Kim Kardashian says that Kanye shot the cover art on his iPhone on the way to the listening event.
Kanye shot the album cover on his iPhone on the way to the album listening party 😂🔥❤🔥🙏🏼🔥
