JAY-Z might be headed to court!
JAY-Z is being sued over his 1996 classic debut, Reasonable Doubt. He is being sued by Raynard Herbert (also known as “Ray Rae.”) Raynard is claiming that he helped JAY-Z land a distribution deal for Reasonable Doubt. He also that he helped master the album.
In exchange for working out that deal, Herbert says he was promised 1% of sales on the album. Herbert claims that he started getting royalties for the album in 1998 and that things were going fine. But then in November 2008, Herbert stopped getting royalties.
After two years he claims he followed up with JAY’s people about late payments, but the label never responded back.
Herbert is suing Jay, Dame Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, for breach of contract and unjust enrichment. He’s asking for the percentage he’s owed, plus interest.
