British-Nigerian actor, John Boyega has shown how much of a fan he is of Nigerian superstar, Wizkid’s smash dancehall hit “Daddy Yo”.
The Star Wars star revealed via his instagram that he added the song to his upcoming movie, Pacific Rim Uprising which he not only stars in, but also produced.
One of the most exciting things about producing Pacific Rim Uprising was the opportunity to influence the creative choices. So I put @wizkidayo song “Daddy yo” in the movie. Jaegers need afrobeats too!
Oh yeah… here’s a video of me listening to this very song. Listening ish.. pic.twitter.com/3LIxAkkTtn

When asked about the upcoming movie and his character’s background, John Boyega explained he made sure to show that his character, Jake Pentecost (son of Idris Elba’s character, the late Stacker Pentecost) was Nigerian.
“I actually produced Pacific Rim and what that meant is that there were ways which I could cater the character towards much more of a Nigerian background. I made him Nigerian and we went through a whole process in which we put moments that reflected his culture in the movie.”
