One of HBO’s most popular series has finally confirmed that its final season will be hitting the airwaves in 2019. Twitter user Kate Author, tweeted a press release from HBO that confirms that the Emmy-winning series will be back and ready to go in at least 12 months.
A lot of fans are sure to be saddened by this news as rumours have been circulating for some time that season eight was set to air in 2018. The final season will a total of six episodes that will average around 60-80 minutes. David Benioff and Dan Weiss will be directing the final season while David Nutter, who stepped off as director in season 5, will be returning for three episodes.
HBO’s programming president, Casey Bloys, spoke with Entertainment weekly last year on the shows cinematic appeal adding that it’s “one of the hallmarks” of the series.”

“The show has proven that TV is every bit as impressive and in many cases more so, than film,” he said. “What they’re doing is monumental. When you see these battles in season 7, and what I imagine season 8 will be, it’s a big, big show. We’ve done a lot of great shows, but this one combines the complex characters we love with a huge cinematic scope. I think this is the first show to prove that can be done  and we’re the first people to pay for it.”
