Ghana and Ivory Coast have successfully moved to the semi final stage of the ongoing 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

In the two other quarter final matches played yesterday, February 1, 2015, Ghana ended Guinea‘s run at the tournament with a 3 – 0 score line while Ivory Coast also defeated Algeria 3 – 1 to advance to the next stage in what is an all-round impressive display by the Elephants.

The Black Stars of Ghana started firing warning shots early in the match with Everton winger, Christian Atsu scoring in the 4th minute just as Kwesi Appiah struck in the 44th minute to make it 2-0. By the 61st minute, the rout was complete as Atsu popped up again to add his 2nd goal of the match and his country’s 3rd.

In the other match, Manchester City’s new signing, Wilfried Bony came to party early in the 1st half for Ivory Coast by scoring on the 26th minute mark but El Arabi Hilal Soudani soon equalised for Guinea in the 51st minute.

Bony, in a fine display that totally made his team mate and current Africa Player of the Year, Yaya Toure anonymous for the side, responded with another goal in the 68th minute before Gervinho sealed the game in the 90th minute upon his return from suspension.

Ivory Coast will now face DR Congo on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 while Ghana takes on the host nation, Equatorial Guinea, on Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the two semifinal matches.
